about

In my early thirties I started making music without any real ability to play music. I couldn’t play any instruments and wasn’t even very confident that I could sing in any way decently. Instead I just had such a love of music and the production of great albums that I just wanted to get involved.
On the first album tunes were pieced together by recording a new track for each note, eventually building up melodies and harmonies. Although I’ve since managed to learn a few chords on the guitar I still hold that love of sampling instruments as much as playing them.

I’m perhaps more widely known for my scriptwriting, improvising and video production. But making music is a great stream of creation. There’s a limit to how many times one can enjoy watching your own play but with music you can listen to an album a thousand times over and still love it. It’s something truly special when you made that album.

I’m a big fan of instrumentals from Four Tet to The Redneck Manifesto to the moments when David Bowie or REM decide to just leave the lyrics off this one and you find yourself in a less defined space of your own imagining. I also just enjoy noodling around so much that I’ve built up quite a catalogue of bits and pieces of tunes. (I’m always ready when a friend needs a theme tune to their podcast or a piece of wordless music for their online video.) So I decided to create an album of mostly instrumentals, with varying feelings or imagined images.

I make music, but if you don't think it's music then I wouldn't argue the point with you.
